Mr. Obrador said his country is "safer than the United States" in response to inquiries surrounding the kidnapping of four Americans, two of them killed.  A Mexican bystander was also killed.

A Reuters article points out that Obrador's declaration may not be the case, citing missing American women and a homicide rate on track to give the Mexican President a record number for his term.

Obrador blamed American conservatives for criticism of his country.
